NECA WA Golf Day

The annual NECA WA Golf Day was held on Friday the 5th of December on one of the first seriously hot Perth summer days. The day, which is always a popular and well attended event on the NECA calendar was held at the Burswood Park Golf Course, located on the East Perth foreshore overlooking the city – a fantastic setting for some pretty competitive golf.
After a quick lunch and a few confidence building pre-game drinks it was time to tee-off. The day was played Ambrose style to a field of 130 players, some more experienced than others and certainly some more concerned about where the beers where?!
On what was a hot day the flow of the golden ale was lacking, as was evident at the simPRO sponsored hole where without fail every cart arrived to the cry of “Paul, tell me you’ve got some bloody beers in your esky?!”. Alas, this was not the case, as the Burswood course has rules that do not cater for the free flow of booze. Water and Powerade were a poor substitute, but had to suffice.
simPRO sponsored hole 4, which also happened to be the longest drive. Some monster drive’s where made, but also saw some over confident strokes not make it past the ladies tee or into the swamp that was to the immediate left. While waiting to tee-off players were also able to get some information on simPRO. Unlike other sponsors for the electrical industry, simPRO was showcasing products that are a little more interesting than light switches and cable. The digital pens were as expected an impressive bit of technology as was the new Navman Wireless partnership.
While at the simPRO hole players had the opportunity to win a bottle of 12 year old scotch. With the bottleneck of booze flowing, it was a dubious task to save this bottle from on course consumption, but it did survive to the end of play untouched.
Around 5pm everyone made their way back to the clubhouse for a much needed drink at the bar. After all had quenched their thirst it was time for the presentations. First place went to MM Electrical Merchandising, second to Gilmour & Jooste and third to Datatel Communications. Datatel also featured again in the prizes with Mike Merry winning the nearest the pin. The 12 year old bottle of Scotch went to thankful Michael Auriemma from Auriemma Electrical Services.
All in all it was another successful day for all involved and a great way for NECA members, sponsors and staff to have a final event and catch up for 2009.
